In January, at the SIHH 2018, Vacheron Constantin launched its Fiftysix-collection. Clearly inspired by the 1950s and positioned to attract a new and younger clientele. The look and style of the Fiftysix is a direct tribute to the reference 6073, a wristwatch created in 1956.
The Fiftysix-collection with so far a Self-winding, a Day-Date and a Complete Calendar model is now extended with the first major horological complication.
Let us together have a look at the Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Tourbillon ...
For insiders a quick information before we start... The Tourbillon launch was brought forward since there is a delay with the Fiftysix chronograph. The latter will probably launch at the SIHh 2019 next January.
I don't mind to see a tourbillon in the Fiftysix collection, since it is a complication that fits perfectly in the DNA of the 1755 founded Geneva based brand.
The Vacheron Constantin calibre 2160 is only 5,65 mm thick, a 22-carat gold peripheral rotor makes it possible. The calibre may be observed through a transparent case-back revealing all the beauty of the mechanism with the refined applied decoration. Alone for the tourbillon mechanism it took over a dozen hours of chamfering and other hand-crafted finishing operations to make it look as gorgeous as it is.
High-end executed decoration was and is a speciality of Vacheron Constantin! So why expect less than this?
The balance-wheel oscillates at a 2.5 Hz frequency (= 18.000 A/h), the barrel of the calibre 2160 offers a power reserve of 80 hours. The entire calibre consists of 188 components.
Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Tourbillon is only available in a 41 mm 18 carat pink gold case, that is 10,9 mm thick (or should we write thin?). This is a major difference to the rest of the Fiftysix collection since all other models are also manufactured with a steel case. Of course to lower the prices and to make the watches accessible too a bigger audience.
Expressed in money terms this means that you will have to spend 118.000 Euro (including 19 % VAT) to buy this exceptional wristwatch.
The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Tourbillon is a Hallmark of Geneva certified timepiece, whilst the
