However, its name is most frequently associated with renowned Geneva watch designer Gérald Genta, who was tasked with re-designing it in the 1970s. With the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, Genta detailed his artistic vision of a stainless steel luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet. Introduced last year, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 reflects the bold aesthetic codes of Genta’s Ingenieur design. It is distinguished by the characteristic bezel with five functional screws, the integrated bracelet and the special dial pattern. After initially presenting an Ingenieur Automatic 40 in titanium and three stainless steel versions with a black, a silver-plated and an aqua dial, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer now adds a new dial colour to the collection. The IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Automatic 40 (Ref. IW328907) features a case, bezel and integrated H-link bracelet with butterfly folding clasp made of stainless steel. The ergonomics of the case and bracelet have been carefully re-engineered and improved down to the smallest detail. The 40-millimetre case size and the middle-link attachment ensure excellent wearability, even on a more slender wrist. The characteristic round bezel is screwed onto the case ring with five polygonal screws. The components of the case and the bracelet are elaborately finished with a combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces. This new IWC Schaffhausen Ingenieur Automatic 40 impresses with its striking blue dial. The characteristic “grid” structure, consisting of small lines and squares, is stamped into the soft iron base using high pressure. Afterwards, the blue colour is applied with a PVD-coating. The rhodium- plated baton hands and the applied metal marker are all filled with Super-LumiNova® luminescent mass to ensure perfect legibility in all lighting conditions. The watch is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre, a self-winding automatic movement with an efficient double pawl winding system. Converting the movements on the wearer’s arm into potential energy for the mainspring, it reliably builds up a power reserve of 120 hours. LANGE & SÖHNE DATOGRAPH launched at the Basel trade show gave watchmaking new impetus. This masterpiece, developed under the auspices of Günter Blümlein, the visionary entrepreneur and strategist, was the first A. Lange & Söhne chronograph after the renaissance of the brand in 1990 and placed the manufacture at the cutting edge: with the ability of chronographs to measure the duration of events with an accuracy of a fraction of a second, they were once again among the most coveted watch models. Additionally, for the first time, the L951.1 calibre was equipped with the typical Lange outsize date. Following the successful launch of the first collection in October 1994, the development of a chronograph calibre was right at the top of the Glashütte manufacture’s priority list ‒ after all, watches with a chronograph function boasted a long-standing tradition at A. Lange & Söhne. As early as 1868, the founder of Saxon precision watchmaking Ferdinand Adolph Lange introduced his first chronograph, equipped with a noteworthy technical advancement: it had one single button for starting and stopping the chronograph hand as well as resetting it to zero. And the newly developed A. Lange & Söhne Datograph calibre L951.1 was intended to do the innovative ambition of the manufacture justice. With its classic column-wheel transmission, precisely jumping minute counter and flyback function, the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph showcases refined functionality: it is an impressive example of Walter Lange’s guiding principle “to build watches that are among the world’s best”. Since the re-establishment, the manufacture has set its own benchmarks with currently 72 movements developed and crafted in-house. Right from the start, in 1999, the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, the watch manufacture consistently expanded its expertise in the field of chronograph construction and, to date, developed a total of 13 trail-blazing models with a chronograph function. With the DOUBLE SPLIT launched in 2004, A. Lange & Söhne built a chronograph equipped with a double rattrapante ‒ a first in the history of precision watchmaking. The second minute counter extended the range of intermediate measurements from 60 seconds to 30 minutes. The TRIPLE SPLIT, which made its debut in 2018, represents the current pinnacle in the development of the sophisticated rattrapante function. Thanks to the addition of a third hand pair, the span of intermediate measurements can be extended to a maximum of twelve hours. Both timepieces are currently still unique in the realm of precision watchmaking. Launched in 2023, the ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH is the result of a different innovative concept devised by the manufacture. It is endowed with the first self-winding chronograph movement by Lange. At Watches and Wonders 2024, the timepiece combining a flyback chronograph with a precise jumping minute counter, perpetual calendar and tourbillon with a stop-seconds mechanism has been presented ‒ for the first time in Lange-exclusive honey gold (HONEYGOLD®) and as a “Lumen” version, limited to 50 watches. Price: 620.000.- Euro including VAT. DATOGRAPH designates a flyback chronograph with the typical Lange outsize date. The flyback mechanism allows quick consecutive time measurements because the three switching steps stop, reset to zero and start are executed with one single push of a button. The minute counter assures unambiguous readings of stopped times: it jumps to the next increment at the precise moment when the chrono seconds hand completes the 60th second. When the crown is pushed home, the balance and tourbillon are released, and the watch instantly starts running again. With a legacy going as far back as 1969, the DEFY Diver was in fact among the earliest DEFY wristwatch offerings. Keeping the collection’s distinctive design with its signature angular case and dodecagonal bezel, ZENITH incorporated all the necessary elements to create a diver’s watch, including a rotating bezel and bright colour accents for instant readability underwater. With the same ethos of combining form and function for a specific purpose, ZENITH is now unveiling a modern diver’s watch inspired by both historical DEFY diver’s references as well as the modern incarnation of the DEFY line, notably the DEFY Extreme. The result is a feature-packed diver’s watch that is obviously and inherently a ZENITH DEFY, built to withstand the extreme conditions encountered in the harshest environments where ice, mist and deep dark waters require enhanced performance and legibility. While inspired by a long line of DEFY divers from 1969 onwards, the DEFY Extreme Diver is as modern as they come. Before Jaeger-LeCoultre developed the Duometre concept, adding complications to a watch movement seemed irreconcilable with accurate timekeeping. That is because the fundamental requirement of precise timekeeping is that the power supply from the movement’s barrel to the escapement should be absolutely steady. This new Octo Finissimo Ultra is not only the thinnest mechanical watch ever produced: it is also the world's thinnest COSC chronometer. This milestone reflects a rigorous process, underscored by a commitment to reevaluate, and transcend the conventions of traditional high watchmaking, propelling venerable craftsmanship into a contemporary context. The outcome is notable: the unparalleled design of watch becomes evident upon first glance, prompting reflection on the innovation behind its creation. How is this even possible? The journey to this record was formidable, beginning with the task of reconciling extreme slimness with robustness. Creating the world's thinnest mechanical watch isn't possible by building solely on existing concepts. It requires a paradigm shift, starting anew from the ground up. This is precisely what Bvigari accomplished with the unveiling of the Octo Finissimo Ultra and its remarkable thickness of only 1.80 mm in 2022. Emboldened by this achievement and convinced the limits had not been reached, Bvlgari's R&D department, in collaboration with Concepto (experts in complex mechanisms), decided to push the envelope further still. Like a sprinter achieving a new personal best, each fraction of improvement demanded exponential effort. Given that the limits of movement slimness had already been reached with the Octo Finissimo Ultra, achieving an even slimmer profile for the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC involved a rework of the case by optimizing the sapphire crystal. Through patient, meticulous incremental steps, the engineers were able to shave off that critical tenth of a millimeter - and establish a new world record. In terms of the overall structure, the case back serves as the mainplate, upon which the 170 components of the manually wound BVL180 manufacture caliber are assembled. These components are selected using 1/10-micron optical measuring systems, so as to be able to select the parts that are closest to the perfect dimension, in order to exceed the precision of production resources. This COSC-certified mechanical movement introduces another layer of complexity and marks a first for the Ultra line. The challenge of ensuring adequate rigidity for a watch measuring 40 mm in diameter and just 1.70 mm thick was met by crafting case back/mainplate from particularly dense, hard and ultra-resistant tungsten carbide. Moreover, to maximize the use of the watch's surface area, the hour and minute dials, the large barrel - with a 50-hour power reserve - and the escapement cleverly play with the circular geometry of the bezel opening, adjusting it ever so slightly. An exceptional watch needs an exceptional case: with the case dedicated to the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC, Bulgari reinvents the experience of setting and winding its watch. To celebrate its thirty-fifth anniversary, as well as the fifteenth anniversary of its Manufacture tourbillon, the Geneva firm has unveiled a new highly limited edition in its Highlife collection: the Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. Thirty-five pieces are being released sporting a blue dial housed in an 18-carat pink gold case. The two historic complications benefit from all the modernity characteristic of the Highlife collection, including its integrated and interchangeable strap. Combining the best of tradition and innovation, the timepiece bears witness to the ongoing progress of a manufactory dedicated to watchmaking excellence. Born in 1999, the Highlife collection has been a major part of the Frederique Constant story and returned centre stage in 2020. Younger generations and veteran collectors alike have been drawn to the contemporary lines of the collection’s case, the alternating satin and polished finishes, and more especially its integrated, interchangeable strap – each Highlife watch systematically comes with at least one additional strap.
