Talking Wempe Glashütte I/SA Iron Walker with Bernhard Stoll & Ruediger Albers

Hamburg/Germany based Jeweler WEMPE unveils “Iron Walker”

I talked to Bernhard Stoll, Managing Director of the WEMPE Watch Division and Ruediger Albers, President WEMPE US about the new Wempe Glashütte I/SA stainless-steel wristwatch chronometers that are inspired by the legendary construction workers who balanced steel girders for skyscrapers at dizzying heights in the early 20th century.

The Iron Walker’s conception began ten years ago, when Kim-Eva Wempe and Bernhard Stoll patented its name. “We were inspired by a story about the steel construction workers in the USA who operated without safety equipment as they assemble the skeleton of a skyscraper,” says Stoll. “That’s how we came up with the idea to create a watch using a precise stainless-steel case featuring integrated strap lugs.” “By coincidence, our Wempe showroom in New York is located on Fifth Avenue in one of the first high-rises built with a steel skeleton,” adds Kim-Eva Wempe. The successful product range of the independent watch brand Wempe Glashütte I/SA comprises the watches from Wempe Chronometerwerke with in-house manufacture calibers; the Wempe Zeitmeister line, which offers mechanical starter models; and now a third line, the Iron Walker. The new line’s strength of character is emphasized by the design of the 316L stainless-steel case, whose architecture features angular as well as rounded flank profiles and a multifaceted surface with matte as well as polished facets. 16 model variants for men and women
This watch is made for the independent man who doesn’t waver from his principles. Instead of being dazzled by short-term mainstream taste, he prefers modern design and sporty elegance combined with durability. For these free spirits, the Iron Walker line with integrated stainless-steel bracelets offers four different men’s models: a chronograph, a diver’s watch, and two flat dress watches. When all the design variants are taken into account, a total of sixteen new models with self-winding or quartz movements are available.
