9 Tips on Watch Photography for Instagram

If you’ve been using a smartphone over the past years chances are you already have an Instagram account. Since you’re reading this article you’re most probably also part of the very vibrant watch community on that platform.

I started my dedicated watch account – @theblackdial – as a new year’s resolution for 2018 and have been enjoying the journey ever since.

I’m a self-taught photographer and by no means a pro who makes his living out of photography. Nonetheless, I’ve put together a list of tips which can help anyone improve their Instagram watch photography game.

I’m going to split this into three parts – taking the shot, editing the photo and posting it to Instagram.

What You Need to Know Before Buying a Watch

I am known amongst my circle of friends as “the watch guy”. Unsurprisingly, I am frequently asked for suggestions or opinions on certain pieces. In the process of helping them out, I began to realise that I have been following a set of subconscious principles for myself when it comes to the purchase of any watch; one that I had never put into words before. Over the past few months, I have tried to collect these thoughts and flesh them out. This article is my attempt at coalescing these principles into something that is helpful, or at the very least coherent.
