SIHH 2018: The Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX collection

Vacheron Constantin, founded in 1755, Geneva’s oldest watch Manufacture, is heralding a new chapter in its history with its FIFTYSIX collection. 

FIFTYSIX … Modern interpretation of the iconic reference 6073, launched in 1956 and inspired by the Maltese cross 

FIFTYSIX represents an important new step as this original line, inspired by a historical Vacheron Constantin watch dating from 1956.   

FIFTYSIX … The golden age of round timepieces, the 1950s represented the pinnacle of aesthetic refinement and remain an incomparable territory begging to be explored.

FIFTYSIX … There is a definite sense of kinship – in spirit as well as in substance – between the 6073 model presented in 1956 and its interpretation in 2018.

FIFTYSIX … For the first time in its history, Vacheron Constantin has decided to offer a classic collection both in gold and in steel, while treating the latter material according to the same high aesthetic standards as the precious metal.  

FIFTYSIX … The collection presented at the SIHH 2018 comprises three 40 mm diameter models – Date / Day of the week, date, power-reserve indicator / Complete calendar with precision moon phase – available in various steel or gold versions.

Flashback …

The originality of reference 6073, as indeed of all 1950s Vacheron Constantin models, also stems from the contrast between the classicism of its dial and the bold design of its case. A watch that already wove ties between respect for tradition and a taste for innovation. The golden age of round timepieces, the 1950s represented the pinnacle of aesthetic refinement and remain an incomparable territory begging to be explored.
The lasting impact that the 6073 was to have on Vacheron Constantin’s history also stemmed from its stature as one of the first watches from the Manufacture to be equipped with a self-winding movement. Calibre 1019/1 was distinguished by its precision and reliability, at a time when most other models were driven by manual-winding mechanisms. Another reason explains this model’s special place within the Vacheron Constantin heritage: the case of the 6073 boasted a water-resistant construction (with a multi-sided caseback).

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar, presented in January 2013 at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) for the first time, was and is a remarkable timekeeping instrument. The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst is limited to 20 pieces and will be sold for 290.000 Euro including 19 % VAT each.

Another four brands join the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in 2018

Good news from Geneva! The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie continues to grow, while the number of exhibitors at Baselworld has been dramatically declining. The central aisles of the SIHH in Geneva are extended for the arrival of Hermès, while a bigger Carré des Horlogers makes room for DeWitt, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud and Romain Gauthier.

A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Homage to Walter Lange – A tribute to a legend!

To honour Walter Lange, who passed away in January 2017, Saxon manufacturer A.Lange & Söhne will bring three gold versions of the A. Lange & Söhne ‘1815 Homage to Walter Lange’ to the markets.

145 watches in white gold, 90 in pink gold and 27 in yellow gold.

And there is one in steel! The 1815 ‘Homage to Walter Lange’ with a black enamel dial and a steel case will be produced only once. This makes it as unique as the man whose name it bears.

The 1815 ‘Homage to Walter Lange’ steel version with a black enamel dial will be auctioned off for a charitable purpose in 2018. Walter Lange, always noted for his philanthropy, would have approved.
