The race is on. America´s Cup challenger Emirates Team New Zealand tries to bring the cup home. Since 1995 Omega is a partner and sponsor of the Kiwis. "22 years on a bumpy road", as Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton told me in the America´s Cup village in Bermuda. I also talked to Raynald Aeschlimann, the CEO and President of Omega. Listen to my interviews and discover the two new Omega America´s Cup timepieces.

Omega is a supporter, sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the Emirates New Zealand Team at the 35th America´s Cup. The association that began in 1995 when Omega partnered with America’s Cup legend, the late Sir Peter Blake. Joining the Kiwi crew in Bermuda at the 35th America´s Cup are Blair Tuke and Peter Burling. Though both are America’s Cup rookies, the talented sailors were gold medalists at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, so rival boats can expect fierce competition.

Omega Speedmaster X-33 Regatta Emirates Team New Zealand Limited Edition - the technical timepiece.

The Speedmaster X-33 is sporting a mix of analogue and digital functions, the X-33 included a Regatta function, to keep track of the critical five minute count-down to the start of the race. A series of alarms, each with their own recognizable ringing sequence, give the ETZN-crew audible cues so they can concentrate fully on preparation. Once the race begins, the X-33 is used to measure progress.

Cased in brushed grade 2 titanium, it has a black dial with blue rings and white transferred markings, as well as cut outs for digital readings. The bezel ring is a ceramic/titanium mix and features a star at 60 seconds, which in addition to the hour markers, hour hand and minute hand, is filled with white Super-LumiNova that emits a green glow. Along with the star at 60 seconds, the bezel also features stars at the 15, 30 and 45 second positions, which together reference the Southern Cross on the New Zealand flag.

A black ceramic ring with LiquidMetal forms the minute track scale and the dial is also decorated with the Omega logo, the word Speedmaster in red and the word “Professional“.

Analogue time is displayed by a skeletonized black-and-white hour hand, a red minute hand and a black-and-white seconds hand. Digital readings use liquid crystal displays (LCD) with grey segments on a black background.

The caseback is a double back system to ensure the best sound transmission of the alarm functions.

The outer back is fixed with 8 screws and stamped with an EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND logo in the centre, engraved with “CHALLENGER FOR THE 35TH AMERICA’S CUP“, “X-33 REGATTA“, as well as the watch's limited edition number. The watch is presented on a black coated nylon fabric strap with blue rubber lining and blue stitching; fastened with a polished-brushed titanium buckle.

It is powered by the quartz multifunctional chronograph Omega caliber 5620.
