Following a 12 minute bidding war, Paul Newman’s Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona sold for to a bidder on the phone. Watch enthusiasts from around the world followed this historic moment online, over the phone, and in a packed saleroom of over 700 people.

Phillips’ inaugural New York auction, WINNING ICONS – Legendary Watches of the 20th Century, has gone down in history tonight, with the monumental sale of the singular, one and only Rolex “Paul Newman” Cosmograph Daytona owned and worn by none other than Paul Newman. With unrivalled provenance, it is the watch that inspired the legendary nickname for the most prestigious versions of Rolex’s Daytona.
