The Glashütte Original calibre 36 features a power reserve of up to 100 hours at a frequency of 4 Hertz (28,800 A/h). This high degree of autonomy is achieved with the use of only one spring barrel, developed specifically for this purpose: increased diameter and a smaller barrel arbour made it possible to lengthen the mainspring and sharply increase the number of winding turns.
Furthermore the calibre 36 is fitted with an innovative silicon balance spring. That was when presented last year a premier for Glashütte Original and a premier in Glashütte, since never before a wristwatch manufactured there was equipped with silicon balance spring. The high-tech material renders the ultra-thin spring immune to changes in temperature and to magnetic fields, its oscillation is extremely isochronous.
A bi-directional winding mechanism ensures that the watch remains within the optimal charge range; a guarantee for excellent rate results. In addition, a regulator-free oscillation system makes it possible to adjust the rate using weighted screws directly on the balance rim.
We of course also find typical Glashütte decorations and construction features: the three-quarter plate and the skeletonised rotor, the refined stripe finish, perlage, blued screws and finely wrought decorations on the wheels and rotor track. A further highlight is the implementation of the elegant manual winding chain, which was consciously presented in full view and reveals the fascinating work performed as the watch is wound by hand.
Now the Calibre 36 is combined with an internal developed module driving a perpetual calendar mechanism. The latter is a mechanical computer knowing all anomalies of our Gregorian calendar until the year 2100. So if worn all time no adjustment has to be done. In 2100 one little correction is necessary, since this year will not be a leap year. The next corrections thereafter will have to be done in 2200, 2300 and 2500 since these years are no leap years as well. If you need to make corrections to the calendar you can do this with several push buttons being integrated in the case of the watch.
What I like is the tidy dial and its good readability.
Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar will be offered in a 42 mm steel and pink gold case waterproof up to 50 meters.
