Finally! Congratulation to Glashütte Original to release this ultimate tool watch for travelers in a stainless steel case.

Yes, this is a tool watch and not a dress watch, so stainless steel is the ultimate case material for this watch.

If you ever thought buying this ultimate ticking travel companion, now the watch is in a price range where it always should have been.

The official price is was confirmed to me today.

Please read my article and you will discover an amazing watch now being positioned for a stunning price!

The ability to track the time of day in two timezones at once is made possible by the Calibre 89-02. The automatic calibre was developed in-house by the German manufactory, it consists of 430 components!

The travel companion from Glashütte Original will now finally be available in a 44 mm stainless steel case after it will be officially presented during Baselworld 2018 in March.

How to set the Senator Cosmopolite?

The primary point of reference for you on the road is the local time at destination.

Accordingly Glashütte Original has given pride of place to the away or destination time, represented by the central hour and minute hands, small seconds dial at 6 o’clock, day/night indicator at 9 o’clock, and the Panorama Date display at 4 o’clock.

A further reference to the destination time is presented at 8 o’clock, where two small windows indicate whether Daylight Saving Time (DST) or Standard Time (STD) is in effect in the destination time zone.

If you wish to change the destination time the mechanics of the Senator Cosmopolite are set in motion:

If heading east (forwards in time), you turn the crown at 4 o’clock clockwise until the IATA code representing the destination timezone appears in the relevant DST or STD window.

If travelling west (back in time), you turn the crown counter-clockwise.

In both cases, the central hour and minute hands jump ahead (or back) in 15-minute intervals until the destination time zone’s IATA code appears in the relevant DST or STD window.

At this point, you need to make no further changes: the central hour and minute hands now indicate the correct time at destination, augmented by the correct day/night indication at 9 o’clock – and by the correct display of the date at destination. If the time at the chosen destination is ahead or back a day, the Panorama Date display changes accordingly.

The color coding allows one to identify the offset from UTC at a glance. The dial of the Senator Cosmopolite therefore is easy to read and presents the time of day at home and away simultaneously, in any two of 37 world timezones.

The zone-time wheel displays a choice of 37 world time zones (!), each indicated by the official IATA location code designating a key international airport in the zone.

The 24 timezones that are aligned at full-hour offsets with UTC present a black IATA code in the DST (Daylight Saving Time) or STD (Standard Time) window at 8 o’clock ...

10 time zones aligned with UTC at half-hour offsets appear in blue ...

3 remaining zones at quarter- or three-quarter hour offsets from UTC are represented by the relevant IATA location code in red ...

And now finally the price for the watch in Stainless Steel:

20.700 Euro including 19 % VAT.

In Red Gold the price was/is:

34.700 Euro including 19 % VAT.

In White Gold the price was/is:

35.900 Euro including 19 % VAT.

My conclusion

You cannot buy a better and more sophisticated tool watch for traveling! The watch now also has Arabic numerals instead of the Roman numerals. Still there is NO other timezone watch on the market that can be set so easily and from which you can read time and date in that manner.

Be honest guys, all these "Unitime" watches are nice, but you can't read the time unless you use a magnifying glass ..

Now in steel the Senator Cosmopolite is a bargain for what you get in terms of innovation and mechanical engineering.

That´s real High-Mech!
