Before Officine Panerai created its first models for the Royal Italian Navy, the Panerai boutique "Orologeria Svizzera" founded 1860 in Florence was selling pocket watches, wristwatches, table-clocks and pendulum clocks from the best makers. The exceptional stock of these clocks was displayed on the first floor of the shop which still today is situated facing the Baptistery of Florence.
The dial of one of these pendulum clocks was the inspiration for the watche's black dial.
The Radiomir 1940 stainless steel (AISI 316L) case is 47 mm is a size that fits perfectly on huge wrists. AISI 316L is an alloy that is particularly tough and resistant to corrosion. The watch is water-resistant to approxiamtely 100 meters. (10bar). The bezel holds a slightly domed Plexiglas crystal, inspired by historic Panerai models. The strap is made of brown natural leather with contrasting beige stitching.
