Calibre Grand Complication Skeleton Platinum by Cartier
The "Calibre Grand Complication Skeleton Platinum" (ref. w7100031) belongs to Cartier's "Calibre" watch family. This watch is limited to 25 pieces. The Watch features a skeletonized dial and is housed in a platinum case. The watch is a gentlemen's watch. The round case has a diameter of 45mm, a height of 18.7mm and is water tight up to 3 bar (approximately 30 m water depth). A transparent case back makes it possible to watch the movement.
The watch is based on a hand-wound Cartier 9436 MC mechanical movement offering a power reserve of 8 days and indicators for hours and minutes. It offers the useful chronograph "stopwatch" function to measure the duration of an event. The measured duration can be read with an indicator for the seconds. The perpetual calendar indicates day of the week, date, month and leap year. As regulating organ, the movement has a tourbillon which causes the balance wheel and the escapement to rotate slowly. In the days of pocket watches, the tourbillon increased the accuracy of the watch by preventing the minute components from working in the same orientation for a prolonged period of time. Today, the complication mostly serves an aethetic and emotional purpose and is a testament of the manufacturer's watchmaking abilities.
The watch is carried on a black alligator leather strap with a platinum folding clasp.
