What does the Brand stand for?
In 1884, LĂ©on Breitling, a clever watchmaker, launched its own brand in the small town of Saint-Imier. His pioneering spirit marked the industry as he revolutionized the way watches were produced, improving and simplifying the manufacturing process. He passed on his passion for chronographs to his son, Gaston, who in 1915, presented a new chronometer movement with a pusher independent from the crown; a feature adding remarkable functionalities.
Breitling’s bond with aviation has always been strong as the brand was known for providing pilots and airlines with reliable wrist- and onboard chronographs. The manufacture is still honoring this heritage and try to push the boundaries further, willing to create the best navigation “instruments for professionals”.
Today, under the management of Georges Kern, the brand is looking at the future with confidence, knowing that it will always provide innovative timepieces while respecting the pioneering spirit of its founder.
About the Models
Navitimer 1
In 1952, Breitling presented a prototype that soon would turn into its flagship collection: the Navitimer. Deriving from the combination of the word “navigation” and “timer”, these models are Breitling’s tribute to its aviation heritage. With its famous slide rule, the dial of the Navitimer 1 is instantly recognizable, and its functionality, reliability, as well as iconic design, make this model a pilots’ favorite. After almost 70 years, the Navitimer 1 has established itself as a true icon in the watch industry, and in Breitling’s collection as well.
Navitimer 8
Launched in 2018, the Navitimer 8 is the modern translation of the brand’s iconic collection. The watch’s conception has been redesigned from start to finish to satisfy contemporary demands and prerequisites. Nevertheless, Breitling always managed to respect the DNA and technical features of the original Navitimers. With its simpler and more minimalist design, the Navitimer 8 might constitute a clue of the direction the brand is going to take in the future.
