Baselworld 2017: Frédérique Constant Flyback Chronograph Manufacture

The Flyback Chronograph Manufacture is a real price-cutter in its class! The new chronograph calibre FC-760 was developed in-house from scratch over a six year period, most of the components are now being manufactured in-house and finally the caliber is fully assembled in-house in the workshops in Plan-les-Ouates. Yes, it can be done! This in-house Manufacture Flyback Chronograph will be sold below 4000 Euro, starting at 3695 Euro including VAT.

Frédérique Constant decided to adopt a modular construction for its Calibre FC-760. The movement comprising 233 components (of which only 96 components are dedicated to the Flyback module) with a rotor winding in both directions features a 38-hour power reserve. Critically minded among you may now think that such a small number of parts must imply loss of quality. This is by no means the case. On the contrary, releasing the chronograph push-piece above the crown for the first time demonstrates how thoroughly the functional relationships have been thought through. Protection against errors of manipulation is clearly perceptible in the resistance felt on starting. Nevertheless, the pressing action is extremely smooth. Of course, the same is true of the subsequent stopping and resetting operations. The latter is of course not the standard for many chronographs. I am sure you already experienced the contrary when starting, stopping and resetting a chronograph. You would for sure not expect this from a chronograph being sold for less than 4000 Euro.

The Frédérique Constant Flyback Chronograph Manufacture is sold in two main versions: one that is essentially casual looking with a silver or dark grey smooth dial; and another more classical looking with a silver dial, featuring a “Clou de Paris” guilloché decoration, black printed roman numerals and Breguet-style hands.

Both these versions are available in stainless steel or in rose gold-plated stainless steel.

Three counters are placed at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock displaying the 30 minute counter, date by hand, and small seconds respectively.

As part of the already recognizable characteristics of a Manufacture movement, the new Calibre FC-760 is decorated with Perlage and Côtes de Genève which are visible by through the transparent back case.

Frédérique Constant is based in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland. The company is involved in all stages of the watch production, from initial design, to final assembly and quality control. Frédérique Constant meanwhile develops, manufactures and assembles 21 different in-house calibres since 2004. All of them are sold for very attractive prices.

Such developments deserve the utmost respect! Frédérique Constant definitively offers much more than many of you probably expect.

By the way, this one underneath with the grey dial is my favorite …
