Gallet: A First Look at the Brand’s Collection

Right in time for the brand’s 200th birthday, Gallet is returning to the international watchmaking stage, ready “for a new generation drawn to discovery and wanderlust.” Georges Kern, CEO of House of Brands (Breitling, Gallet, and Universal Genève): “Gallet was born in an age of exploration and has followed that path ever since. We’re proud to bring Gallet back for a new generation.”

Produced by Breitling, the brand aims to “blend two centuries of adventure with modern precision and craftsmanship” at a more accessible price point than its sister brands Breitling and Universal Genève. To do so, Gallet can benefit from the technical know-how, after-sales service, and global distribution network behind Breitling. Erwan Rossignol, Managing Director of Gallet: “Gallet has a remarkable history and a distinct identity. By manufacturing every watch within Breitling’s infrastructure, we’re able to honor that heritage while ensuring the quality, reliability, and service expected from a modern Swiss watch brand.” Which also means that select Breitling boutiques will have dedicated Gallet corners.

Gallet introduced some of its most important models in the 1930s, like the Multichron Regulator or the waterproof Multichron with clamshell case. In 1939, Gallet presented the Flying Officer, featuring a multiple time zone calculator (an early model of the Gallet Flying Officer was presented to then Senator Harry S. Truman). In the 1960s, the brand added the Multichron Yachting with a five-minute regatta countdown, and the Multichron Pilot with rotating 12-hour bezel.

Gallet’s comeback starts with four collections (priced between CHF 2,500 and CHF 5,900): the Flying Officer, the Multichron Pilot, the Multichron Sport, and the Gallet Classics. The Flying Officer in particular serves as a blueprint for modern Gallet watches, “combining a city ring with the patina of an aged vintage model and Gallet’s signature orange-and-green palette.”

Flying Officer

The 40-mm Flying Officer features a rotating bezel with 24 destinations. It is available in two interpretations: as a chronograph, and as a three-hand version. The chronograph itself is available in two colorways: light blue with tone-on-tone subdials (Ref. AG2301131C1W1) and black with tone-on-tone subdials (Ref. AG2301131B1X2), both are powered by the automatic Gallet 23 chronograph caliber (based on the Sellita SW510) with an approximate 62-hour power reserve.

The three-hand version comes in two colors as well and is also water resistant to 100 meters: a dark blue execution (Ref. AG1701131C1W1), and the orange edition shown here (Ref. AG1701131O1W1), both powered by the Gallet 17 caliber (based on the Sellita SW200) with an approximate 41-hour power reserve.

Multichron Pilot

The new Multichron Pilot is sized at 42 mm, also powered by the Gallet 23 chronograph caliber and features a bi-directional bezel. It comes in two dial colors (both textured): black with white subdials (Ref. AG2303251B1W1 shown here) and blue with black subdials (Ref. AG2303171C1W1). The stainless steel case is also water resistant to 100 meters.

Multichron Sport

Sized at 41 mm, the revamped Multichron Sport is also powered by the Gallet 23 movement and comes in two colors: a dark blue dial with black subdials (Ref. AG2302101C1X1, and the black version shown here with white subdials (Ref. AG2302131B1X1). Like the previous models shown here, the Multichron Sport is water resistant to 100 meters and equipped with a solid stainless steel caseback.

Gallet Classics

The brand also introduces the Gallet Classics, a collection with three 38-mm hand-wound chronographs that are based on some of the most significant watches in the brand’s history: the Multichron Yachting Big Eye chronograph shown here (Ref. AG0910121A1S1), the Multichron 45 (Ref. AG0910121B1W1), and the Silverlight (Ref. AG0910121G1X1). Each watch in the series is powered by the Caliber B09, Breitling’s hand-wound
manufacture chronograph movement (hence the transparent casebacks).

11 Watches, 5 Strap Options

Thanks to using the same lug width for the entire collection (20 mm) and integrated quick-release spring bars, Gallet will be offering additional leather, rubber, field, and fabric straps in a variety of colors.

160 Retailers

The colelction from Gallet will be available at 160 points of sale worldwide (of which 90 are Breitling boutiques), with 45 locations in Canada, USA and Mexico, and 85 retailers located in Europe. Prices start at CHF 2,500 (Flying Officer), the Chronos are CHF 3,900 (on strap), the three manual wind chronographs with Breitling’s own movement CHF 5,900.
