Time Traveling in Geneva: The Best Stores to Buy Your Next Watch

The capital of the Canton of Geneva and Switzerland’s second-most populous city is not only one of the leading global hubs for finance and diplomacy, it is also home to some of the country’s most prestigious watchmakers, like Patek Philippe, Rolex, or Vacheron Constantin. More conveniently, the city of Geneva offers its visitors perhaps one of the highest densities of watch brands in walking distance, pretty much all located conveniently between the train station and Rue du Rhône. On top, you’ll also find the ateliers of F.P.Journe, Xhevdet Rexhepi/Atelier Akrivia (Grand-Rue 15) in Geneva, De Bethune (Rue du Rhône 23), as well as all the major auction houses, Watchfinder (Rue du Marché 34), and the vintage watch paradise of Roy and Sacha Davidoff (Rue Verdaine 16).

In short: if you are into watches, chances are extremely high that you will at some point end up in Geneva, be it for the auctions in spring and autumn, Watches and Wonders, Geneva Watch Days, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), or simply to visit the Patek Philippe Museum (Rue des Vieux-Grenadiers 7).

Over the last couple of years, Geneva has frequently demonstrated how quickly the traditional watch industry is evolving: By now, most of the leading brands are operating a flagship store in Geneva (Swatch even has two stores, and the Rolex boutique on Rue de la Fontaine 3 is actually managed by Rolex). On the other hand, Zbinden, a local retailer with more than twenty different brands closed its doors in 2026 after almost 100 years, shortly after Les Ambassadeurs had disappeared from Rue du Rhône. Watch retail giant Bucherer had consolidated the previous locations an Quai du Mont-Blanc and Rue du Mont-Blanc and can now be found on Rue du Rhône, in a historic building, offering not only stunning views of Lake Geneva and the Jet d’Eau but also a Rolex Certified Pre-Owned department on its fourth floor.

Other brands use the city’s international appeal to test out new ideas: In December 2017, for example, IWC Schaffhausen announced the opening of the bar “Les Aviateurs” right next to its boutique on Rue du Rhône. In 2023, Breitling opened its second restaurant right next to its boutique on Place des Bergues 1, called the “Breitling Kitchen Geneva”, and François-Paul Journe opened “Le Restaurant” on Rue du Rhône 49 with Dominique Gauthier (previously at Le Chat Botté) in the same year. Needless to say, MB&F‘s first M.A.D. Gallery on Rue Verdaine 11 is a must for anyone visiting Geneva. Maximilian Büsser: “We saw the M.A.D.Gallery as the perfect platform to showcase our own Machines as well as other pieces of mechanical and kinetic art by other creators whom we greatly admire.”

As a regular tourist, you should expect at least half a day just for the boutiques, and the same goes for a visit of the Patek museum. While a majority of the flagship stores follow more or less their brand’s global retail concept, the Patek Philippe Salons Genève remains the only place where the entire current collection is showcased: when Patek, Czapek & Cie was established in Geneva in 1839, the first manufacture was located at 29 Quai des Bergues, on the right bank of the Rhône river. The company later relocated to number 15 on Quai des Bergues and was renamed Patek, Philippe & Cie. The current building across was acquired in 1891, a fifth floor was added in 1907. In 1996, as the actual manufacture was moved to Plan-les-Ouates (a major industrial zone located south of the city of Geneva), the building became the brand’s flagship store, and the “Patek Philippe Geneva Salons” was officially inaugurated in November 2006.

The Best Watch Boutiques in Geneva

Czapek, on the other hand, managed to find a location on Quai des Bergues, after six years on Rue de la Corraterie, obviously “a location of great symbolic significance for the Maison, as it was here that François Czapek established his first Geneva workshop in the 19th century.”

For this overview, we decided to focus on the watch stores and flagship boutiques watch collectors can visit without having to go through additional preparations (you can, for example, visit the F.P.Journe boutique on Place de Longemalle 13, but you obviously cannot just walk into the manufacture on Rue de l’Arquebuse 17).

Also worth noting: The Geneva Bulgari boutique (which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025) is currently closed for an eight-month renovation. It is the birthplace of the first Bvlgari Bvlgari watch.
