Vroom: Monaco Speed 12

By: Roger Ruegger

The TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 (Ref. WBW2180.FT8133) is a limited edition of 50 pieces using a 40-mm grade 5 titanium case with fine-brushed and polished finishes. More importantly, the open-worked dial is surrounded by twelve rhodium-plated rotating hour pistons with black lacquered Arabic numerals, arranged in a circular formation, with a black opaline minute ring and a central hand with red lacquered tip.

The original Monaco debuted back in 1969, the new Speed 12 was introduced during the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco 2026 (June 5 - 7).

The square sapphire caseback reveals the TH84-00 movement. The automatic caliber is, obviously, based on the Louis Vuitton Spin Time (developed and produced by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton) and adapted accordingly for the TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12.

As the central minute hand completes a full revolution, the mechanism selects the next piston and rotates it 90° to reveal the following hour, while the previous one disappears (here it’s 11:54).

Made of 274 components, “it delivers a bold convergence of mechanical ingenuity and motorsports inspiration” and a power reserve of 45 hours. The Monaco Speed 12 is expected to hit the road next December.
