Bucherer’s New Rolex Boutique on Mount Titlis

A Superlative Shopping Experience

Bucherer just opened a new Rolex boutique on Mount Titlis, creating not only the world’s highest place to officially buy a Rolex, but a truly unique destination “where the world of fine watchmaking meets an exceptional Alpine landscape.”

At 3,238 meters/10,623 feet above sea level, Titlis is the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass, between the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland. The former communication tower (located at 3,020 meters) has been transformed by Herzog & de Meuron and now combines a Horizon Deck as a viewing platform above the glacier, Joseph’s Restaurant for Casual Fine Dining with panoramic views, and below the new Rolex Boutique. Unsurprisingly, the project had to factor in the severe climatic conditions at the mountain summit, which required careful planning and coordination. Materials were delivered by cable car or helicopter, and construction needed to be adapted to changing weather, snow accumulation, and limited visibility.

In terms of materials for the interior, the choice fell on American walnut paneling, Verde Alpi marble, smoked oak flooring and natural-fiber carpets, all complemented by furnishings in green velvet, leather and soft beige textiles.

Designed in collaboration with Rolex architects, the boutique reflects the brand’s values and codes through a refined architectural concept: “Contemporary in style and filled with natural light, the space opens onto expansive Alpine vistas through large picture windows, seamlessly connecting interior and exterior.” At its center, a sculptural natural stone table creates a focal point, “its contrasting raw and polished surfaces expressing a dialogue between organic materiality and precision craftsmanship.”

Fittingly, the first watch to be sold in the highest Rolex boutique in the world happened to be a Oyster Perpetual Yellow Rolesor Cosmograph Daytona with white dial (Ref. 126503).

Bucherer also operates a multi-brand boutique at the Trübsee station at 1,764 meters (5,787 feet) above sea level (where visitors can take the famous Titlis Rotair revolving cable car to the peak).
