Time Travelling in Biel: The Best Place to Buy Your Next Swatch

By: Roger Ruegger

After a construction period of almost five years, Swatch inaugurated its new headquarters in Biel in 2019. It was designed by the Japanese star architect Shigeru Ban and is regarded as one of the world’s largest timber structures. The building is connected to the Cité du Temps with a glass pedestrian bridge, which in turn is home to both the Omega and the Swatch “Planet Swatch” museum, and there also is an Omega flagship boutique pretty much next door. Another great reason to visit the corner of Nicolas G. Hayek and Jacob Stämpfli street: Swatch is operating the first (and most likely only) drive-thru store in the watch industry, “thus offering the first ever ‘wrist food to go’ service” in a fittingly creative setting. On the other hand, who would want to remain seated while buying a watch?

In addition, the drive-thru is usually one of the best places to hunt for new drops, since almost any new MoonSwatch or Scuba Fifty Fathoms is going to be launched here on day one. So with the drop of the Swatch X Audemars Piguet Royal Pop on Saturday, May 16, this certainly is one of the places to wait in line.

The Swatch "Greetings from Biel/Bienne" from 2022 (Ref. SO29Z118) can only be purchased at the brand's drive-thru store and comes with special packaging.

Plus, there are models and collections you might only find there. All you have to do is select your favorite watch, pay for it and literally drive away (or even better: visit the Omega and Swatch museum).
