An Improved Design Classic

By: Roger Ruegger

Thanks to brands like Alpina, Baume et Mercier, Frederique Constant, Nomos or Oris, Watches and Wonders continues to offer encounters with novelties with more accessible price tags. In 2026, the show has finally added Sinn to “La Mezzanine”, and the German watchmaker did not disappoint: the 544 (Ref. 544.010 and 544.011 with red seconds hand) draws “on proven design elements from models such as the 144 and the 244, translating them into a deliberately reduced aesthetic.”

The 38.5-mm case comes with the crown ergonomically placed a t 4 o'clock.

The bead-blasted stainless-steel case, with a diameter of 38.5 mm, features sapphire crystals on both sides. The crown is equipped with the brand’s D3-System (the crown is mounted directly in a fine-finished case aperture), the black dial has by manually applied hybrid-ceramic luminous elements (by integrating the luminous pigments directly into the ceramic component, a high concentration of luminous material is achieved).

Visible through the sapphire caseback, Sinn is already using the new SW 200-2 from Sellita.

The 544 is water-resistant, resistant to low pressure and pressure-resistant up to 200 m. The automatic movement offers a power reserve of at least 60 hours.

Prices start at €1,390 (on rubber strap). The 544 shown here sells for €1,740 with stainless steel bracelet.
