It certainly makes sense to have the next generation of watch designers work on the next generation of one of your collections, especially if you’re looking to reach new audiences. In the case of the new Artelier Date from Oris, the 24-year old product designer behind the new visual direction of the collection describes the result as a “fresh and modern, but also a romantic tribute to Oris’s design legacy.” And, obviously, Lena Dina Verena Huwiler expects her “generation enjoying this watch.”
The revamped Artelier family aims to be a “21st century urban dress watch” and consists of the 38-mm Artelier Date, the 39.5-mm Artelier Complication (with moonphase and a second time zone), and the 43-mm Artelier Calibre 113, which is powered by the Swiss brand’s 10-day in-house movement. This version displays the day, date and month of the year, as well as the weeks via a gauge around the dial edge. Both the Artelier Complication (Cal. 782) and the Artelier Date (Cal. 733-1) shown here are powered by the 4Hz Sellita SW200-1 automatic base movement (modified by Oris to display the moon phase at noon and the 24-hour second time for the Artelier Complication), prices start at $2,200 (Artelier Date with leather strap) and currently end at $8,000 (for the Year of the Horse Limited Edition).
The Artelier Date is available with a brown (Oris calls it “chocolate black”) or blue dial with radial pattern, the white version a grained section in the middle. All three feature a domed sapphire crystal and applied indexes, the hour and minute hand are coated with luminous material.
All three versions are available with either a leather strap or new H-link metal bracelet (which will increase the price to $2,400). Shown here are the Ref. 01 733 7810 4055-07 6 20 17FC with blue dial and black leather strap, the 01 733 7810 4051-07 6 20 17FC with white dial and black leather strap, and the 01 733 7810 4054-07 6 20 18FC with brown dial and matching strap. Contrary to the press pictures, “Artelier” and “Oris” are raised (and not just printed).
