Rematch: Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Trilogy

By: Roger Ruegger

Novak’s horological partnership continues with the release of the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Trilogy (Greatest Of All Time). The 44-mm watch comes in three colors, inspired by the colors of playing surfaces, and each variant is offered in a numbered sequence to follow Novak’s wins on each surface.

“Orange, inspired by clay. Green, inspired by grass. Blue, inspired by hard courts.” – Hublot

The 44-mm case is made of a Hublot-developed composite using Lacoste polo shirts and Head tennis racquets, while the mid-case uses ultra-strong Titaplast. As a result, each of the three watches only weighs 56 grams.

There will be 72 pieces in blue, symbolizing Novak’s hard court wins so far; 21 in orange for his clay court wins; and, making it the most exclusive of the three, eight in green for his wins on grass. The 101 watches are individually numbered, but they’re not limited: On the occasion of any future win, Hublot will add a further watch, colored according to the tournament surface.

Speaking of tournaments: The six titanium screws that hold the composite bezel in place are shaped like tennis balls, which required to design a special S-shaped screwdriver head that could tighten the screws.

But there are obviously more visual links to the world of tennis:

In place of a traditional, solid mainplate to hold the movement components in place, Hublot went with a three-dimensional lattice that takes the shape of tennis racquet strings. Each “string” is just 0.55mm thick and appears to be secured into the mainplate edge by attachment points that echo those found around the inner rim of a tennis racquet (it is, in fact, a single piece, machined in a high-tech laser-engraving process). The gaps between the strings are intentionally irregular, as they would be on a tennis racquet mid-match.

The HUB6035 movement offers a tourbillon at 6 o'clock, a micro-rotor at 12 o'clock and 72 hours of power reserve.

In short, hardcore fans of both the Serbian professional tennis player and light-weight luxury watches from the Swiss watchmaker should be thrilled about the two playing doubles again.
